5 Free Essential Tools Every Newbie Content Writer Need
Every content writer will agree that having the best tools to work is key to success. As a newbie content writer, one of the things I struggled with the most is finding the right software or app to make my work easier.
Using the right tool elevates your work to the same level as one written by experienced writers.
If I were to start all over again, here are the five tools I wish I knew about:
1. Ahref’s Keyword Generator
As content writers, we all know the importance of keyword research. Using the right keyword increases the visibility of your work and its relevance to the chosen topics.
Ahref’s keyword generator as a tool, gives you the freedom to search for any topic at will. Simply type in a topic and in seconds, Ahref’s keyword generator will give you over fifty related keywords.
The tool also sorts these lists based on search volume to indicate how many times a keyword has been searched for per month.
It gives you Google, Bing, YouTube and Amazon keyword research estimates. I took a step further and searched via Google if using Ahref’’s Keyword Generator data is accurate.
Below is the answer I got:

It implies that Ahref’s search volume estimates are approximately accurate for 60% of the keyword studied when compared to ‘impressions’ data from Google Search Console.
2. Resume-now
I never understood the opportunities a resume offers until I began to use one.
Building a resume/portfolio helps to showcase your work in an organised manner to prospective clients.
One of the apps that you can use is Resume-now.
This tool gives you a choice to either create a new resume or rebuild your old one into something better.
There are also apps like, Zety.com and Resume.io that does excellent work building a resume\ portfolio for you.
3. Grammarly
If English is not your first language, you struggle with spellings or making sentences, then Grammarly is for you. The icing on the cake is, Grammarly gives you blog posts on English basics behind good grammar. For instance, the screenshot of Grammarly below shows the following:

The free version checks for grammatical errors and clarity of your work. The premium version offers advance advice on word choice, readability, punctuations and a built-in plagiarism test system.
4. Canva
If you need to create visual contents easily in a short time, you will like Canva. The time and money it takes to learn a design from scratch or pay for design assets can be very discouraging especially if you are new to content writing.
A tool like Canva comes in-handy because it offers a huge library of pre-made templates that you can manipulate. Simply type in the template, article cover or profile background you want and then edit. All for free!
If you want more graphics or assets, you can upgrade to the premium version. Canva offers you real value at almost zero cost.
5. Headline Analyzer by CoSchedule
Your headline is the first sentence people see. That makes your headline the first and possibly the only chance to compel readers to read your work.
Headline Analyzer by CoSchedule is a free tool that helps to score your headline quality and checks the ability to drive traffic and social shares.
You can use it as an additional overview of your work.
